Choosing Your Implant Dentist

When receiving dental implants to replace missing or failing teeth, it is important to find a practice that is experienced in the procedure with proven results. At Durham Dental Solutions, we are implant providers in the Whitby and Bowmanville, Ontario area with over 30 years of combined dental implant experience. One of our implant dentists, Dr. Mark Bishara, is also the president and founder of the Canadian Implant Dentistry Network, one of Canada’s largest online study clubs. To help patients understand the dental implant process better, we offer a complimentary meeting with our dental implant dentists to discuss their goals, answer questions and inform them of their needs. A common question patients have is on the overall dental implant process, from start to finish, so we have created a step-by-step guide so you can follow along.

Dr. Mark Bishara talks about dental implants procedure from start to finish.

Individual Dental Implant Process

The first step for patients is a complimentary consultation with our implant dentists. During this time, we will discuss your smile goals, hear your concerns and can even give you an estimate on your dental implant cost. Those that choose to continue with the implant procedure will receive their 3D CT scan and x-ray imaging of their oral structure.

Depending on your specific needs, we can immediately place a dental implant into your jaw following the imaging of your mouth or wait for a follow up appointment a week later. In some instances, we can even place a temporary crown over the implant that very appointment.

Approximately two months after your dental implant has been placed, we will be able to affix your permanent final crown restoration. This crown will look, feel and function like a natural tooth.

Full Arch Dental Implant Process

Similar to having an individual implant placed, we always begin with a complimentary consultation to discuss your goals, needs, answer questions and give an you an estimated cost of your procedure. If you decide to continue with full arch dental implants, including the Teeth in a Day® procedure, we will follow up your consultation with 3D CT scans and x-ray imagining of your oral structure. Additionally, upper and lower jaw impressions will be taken to begin planning for surgery.

Around one week later, you will return to have additional impressions taken so we can gather information to create a temporary prosthesis. Any final preparations for surgery will be performed at this time and final questions or concerns can be answered.

About three weeks after your final preparation, we will begin surgery. Any remaining teeth will need to be extracted and we will use a dental implant guide to precisely place your implant post within the jaw. A fixed temporary bridge will then be attached to give you a natural-looking and functional smile.

You will wear your temporary bridge for around 4 to six months as your implants heal. You’ll be able to use these teeth as normal until your final prosthesis is created. We will have you come in for final impressions of your permanent bridge so the final results fit you just right.

Two weeks after your final impressions, we will have you try a mock-up of your final bridge. This ensures that the restoration will fit comfortably, give you a proper and harmonious bite, and be able to last you for many years to come.

This is the last step of your full arch dental implant process! We will remove your temporary bridge and fit you with your new, personalized fixed bridge that will be able to last you for years to come.
